Code of Ethics

 

Members of LPI and SCLPA adhere to the LPI Code of Ethics which is dedicated to an LPI Past President, Joan M. Moore, PLS, CCLS, and reads as follows:

 

It shall be the duty of each member to observe all laws, rules and regulations now or hereafter in effect relating to confidentiality and privileged communication, acting with loyalty, integrity, competence and diplomacy in accordance with the highest standards of professional conduct.

ABOUT US

Stanislaus County Legal Professionals Association (SCLPA) is a member of Legal Professionals, Incorporated (LPI) which was established in 1934. LPI is a nonprofit mutual benefit corporation organized for the purpose of providing educational, professional, and personal development programs to its members. 


On a local level, SCLPA offers the following:

SCLPA offers opportunities to advance your legal career through continuing education, to improve your professional and personal skills, and to establish a networking fellowship among members of this association. Our goal is to uphold honor, dignity, and a high standard of ethics among our members.  

​

Our association gathers monthly to conduct a high order of business wherein we also offer a guest speaker who shares information on different areas of law or services in our community.   We offer discounted educational seminars and regularly disseminate information and knowledge of interest to our members. We encourage continuing education wherein our association (and LPI) provides scholarships for those desiring a career in the legal field.

OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSES

  • To establish good fellowship among the members of this association.

  • To stimulate a high order of business and professional attainment.

  • To further our knowledge of the law and to uphold its honor and dignity.

  • To create a high standard of ethics among our members.

 

Membership is open to any person working in the legal profession.  In addition to legal secretaries, the membership is open to attorneys, legal assistants, receptionists, clerks, court reporters, legal administrators, court personnel and banking trust department personnel.

Our association announces employment opportunities throughout the county.  Also, as a member of SCLPA, you are able to receive discounts at some banking and investment institutions as well as Hertz Rental.  The Law Office Procedures Manual and the Legal Professional's Handbook are publications generated through our organization.

Scholarship

* Due to schools, including high schools, colleges, and universities, being affected by Covid-19, the deadline for the Eula Mae Jett Scholarship Contest has been extended to Tuesday, June 30, 2020. Further details may be found on our website in the Education Section under Eula Mae Jett Scholarship Plan https://www.legalprofessionalsinc.org/scholarships.

Stanislaus County Legal Professionals Association accepts applications for the Legal Professionals, Inc. Eula Mae Jett Scholarship Plan between January 1st and March 1st of each year. There are three categories of recipients for this scholarship--high school senior, college student, and career change student. The scholarships are granted to those individuals interested in pursuing an opportunity in the legal profession. The scholarship specifically excludes law school. Past recipients have studied to become legal secretaries, paralegals, law office administrators, and court reporters. In addition to the combined $9,000 in scholarships offered by Legal Professionals Inc., the local association offers a scholarship. Any applications submitted for Legal Secretaries Inc. will also be considered by the local organization. The deadline for submission is March 1st of each year.  For more information, please visit our website at www.sclpa.org. We invite you to join the Stanislaus County Legal Professionals Association (SCLPA).  Membership in our organization is open to all legal professionals:  legal secretaries, legal assistants, paralegals, law office administrators and other legal support staff, as well as attorneys.   • Insurance:  A variety of individual insurance plans including health, dental, disability, life and major medical are available through several providers.

  • Retirement Planning:  Help with retirement planning is available through a variety of providers.

  • Discounts on Hertz Rental cars.

​Requirements for Membership:

 

Active:  An active member shall be a person approved by the membership who is: licensed to practice law;  employed as legal support staff in the office of any attorney engaged in the practice of law; employed by the courts; or employed in any other institution or office directly engaged in work of a legal nature.
